Quote of the week.

~What would you attempt if you knew you could not fail?

~ (I don't know)

With a little help from....

as well as.....

Who am i?

My photo
I'm a wife and a mother of 4. I began my 'journey' at 149+ kilos. 8 weeks ago i finally broke the magical barrier of 130 that had confounded me for so long and weighed in at 129.2. Stupid me though, i self sabotaged again and let family issues close me off to the world and i am now 134.6 again and rareing to do anything it takes to get back into new territory.

Challenge - wk 5 and 6 - done and dusted.

Being slack again i know. That plus only just getting my phone and net back online after the feral child next door decided it would be fun to damage the phone cables at the end of our street.

Start weight 128.3kg
1st weigh in 127.8kg
2nd weigh in 126.1kg
3rd weigh in 125.8kg
4th weigh in 125.3kg
5th weigh in 126.2kg
6th weigh in 125.3kg

I had a GAIN of 900g in week five and a loss of 900g in week six which gives me a final total loss of 3kg.

Exercise....how did that go?
Exercise was still not an issue. The group bootcamp we did this time was the Cancer Councils Relay for life.
No problems here

Nutrition....how did that go?
I fell in a hole. I managed to dust myself off up until the weekend of week five but than i spent all weekend seesawing back and forwards between being a good little thamlore and being a naughty one

Motivation....how did that go?
As with the above i was all over the shop. Torn between ' you're in the final days, pull your finger out' and 'i give up, i can't be stuffed' I admit it, i crumbled.....damn it.

Overall, i'm lucky i managed to lose the 900g i put on.

However
the numbers i am proud of - drumroll please.....................
Weight as stated above, -3.0kgs
Arms -2.5cms
Bust -5.5cms
Waist -11 cms
Hips -6 cms
Thigh-0.5cm
Grand total of 25.5cms
And i did drop a dress size. I'm very happy with that

All that is left now is to wait for my bio age test results

Challenge weigh in - wk 2.

Start weight 128.3kg
1st weigh in 127.8kg
2nd weigh in 126.1kg

So, thats a loss of 1.7kg this week, and 2.2kg overall. We wont be doing any of the measurements until the end.

Exercise....how did that go?
Well, i did great. I went to the gym everyday and had some killer workouts. Plus it was a big day out with the family for me on Saturday and i was on my feet from 8am to 4pm, the morning being spent at little aths. On Sunday we had my daughters semi finals for cricket (they've made the gannies:rock1: ) and i put in 30 mins of brisk walking with 3x15 sets of tricep dips and 3x15 sets of pushups, whilst still keeping my eye on the game. I think i'll do the same thing for next weeks game.
All in all, i was pleased with my physical efforts this week.:thumbu2:

Nutrition....how did that go?
Hmmm, how do i answer that. I want to say not good. After all, my daughter brought home a burger from her work on Saturday night and without any second thoughts i ate it....well any third thoughts anyway. Other than that my food budget was fantastic, so i shouldn't focus on one negative.
My food was fine. (Perfect if i was maintaining).

Motivation....how did that go?
I believe that was good also. I mean, a part from the burger episode i had no problems keeping to a healthy eating plan and no problems with putting in some physical effort.
:thumbu2:

Now, as for the loss. I am very pleased. I wont log the loss in until Friday, my normal CK weigh in day, and hopefully i can lose an extra 200g so i can bypass the 126's alltogether. (I hope i didn't jinx myself :( )
The 25's represent a mini goal for me. It was the last real weight i was concious of, even though it was at the 20 week hospital weigh in for my son. That was almost 12 years ago. This is going to be a big achievement. The thing about reaching my goals though, although i feel pleased i am not ecstatic, i don't know what it is really, though i wonder if it is a part of that feeling that i have that i will one day be successful in my weightloss (to clarify, i mean the same feeling that i have when i thought about -successfully, the sexes of my pregnancies). I've always known i will one day win this weight battle, but knowing that can be a little offputting as i seemed to keep putting the start day off. Maybe though, i am not taking pride in something i shouldn't be proud about. I mean , i should never have put this weight on in the first place.
Or maybe i am just waiting (weighting? ) for the magical double numbers. Who knows...... ultimately as long as i keep plodding on, the only thing that matters is that i am living a much healthier life now, and so are my family.

Wishing everybody some 'happy dolphins'

Challenge weigh in - wk 1

Start weight 128.3kg
1st weigh in 127.8kg

As you can see i recorded a loss of 500g. I'm not really dancing for joy though as last Friday had me another 500gs down, equalling a kilo.

So, why the gain on my loss (if that makes sense to anyone other than me?)
My weekend was on track as far as calories where concerned, but due to being at a little aths comp all weekend and living on lean chicken and light mayo sandwiches with carrot sticks and boiled egg for snacks i figure i overloaded on carbs. What's done is done. It could've been a lot worse if i didn't take any of my own food and i didn't go the salad route as i wanted to make sure i wouldn't stray with takeaway carp because a salad didn't quite fill me.
I'm pretty sure i overloaded on water as well. 5x 600ml bottles on the Saturday and 3 on the Sunday.
Anyway....my instructor asked me not to do my usual Friday weigh in as i would have been happy with my loss if i hadn't seen a better loss a couple of days earlier. And as for my food diary this first week of the challenge, she was very happy with it.

Moving on.

My contours branch is being sold so they have a guy (GUY!!!!!) out, kind of like, going over everything. He decided to take over today just as i got on my first rebounder.
HOLY CARP!!!
Boy did i have a fantastic workout. My HR was up 10-20 bpm for the entire time. I normally sit between 130-145 ish with an occasional 150+ when i do a couple of running laps but after the first 5 machines and rebounders i never saw below 145 again. I felt great afterwards and he even gave me a thumbs up for 'putting in a great effort'. It was fun to do a few different things on the rebounders and he didn't just give you a move to do for each one, he started you off and then made sure to up the intensity ofter 10 or so seconds and then again....and then up it again. I guess kind of following a similar path to interval training. (if i make sense - which is rarely, if ever )

Although a part of me thought he really shouldn't have been there - considering a lot of women choose contours for its being a women only gym ( and many members complained with a few turning around and walking straight back out), i actually found i didn't care. That i have gotten over my embarassment of all my bits jiggling and i actually enjoyed the challenge he presented me with as i had to push myself harder to keep up with him. I wish he could stay.....or at the very least that the instructors learn a few things from him  (Shock, betrayal)

All in all a good couple of days with no alcohol or coke involved:thumbu2: (The drink coke, not the powdered kind :laugh5: ) I even stayed away from the evil doritos, twisties, party pies, choc eclaires etc... when i joined my childern after school assembly on Monday to celebrate my son getting School Captain and my daughter getting House Vice Captain.  I stuck to 2 small pieces of watermelon :)

I'm having a contented *sigh* moment. Better live it up while i can.

Till next time

Another low point :D

131.4
the lowest i've been in years.

I done 35 sessions at my local contours.....only missing 2 (first sat as i was going to take the weekends off and last sat as i was steam cleaning the carpets).

My fav trainer is giving me a big head. I lost the most cm's last month out of the gym and after a meeting with all the surrounding contours she was gloating as i had lost the most out of the surrounding ones as well.......my success is her success afterall

So i lost 1.4 this week. I'm fine, i'm happy, but i am waiting for the other shoe to drop and the plateau to start....Again. The little yo-yo movement my scales sooooooo love.

The only difference i can see in my shape is that my waist is narrower, but that just makes me feel wider in the hips and butt.
Actually, i do see more bulges, but i attribute that to changing shape. It does throw you for a bit though, it makes me think i have put on weight.

I'm worried i haven't lost any cm's but i have 2 weeks to turn that around. I am trying to prepare myself mentally, like when you first start your 'journey' and you lose the kilos fast!

On other fronts, My house is sparkly. I had a spring clean and cleaned out all the hidey holes (and tupperware cupboard)

I'm tired and aching, yawn my way through gym and fall into bed and pass out. It's just been one of those hectic weeks.

And now for school hols....... Does anyone want to 'borrow' 4 kids????

1st months progress report.

Not on CK, but at contours.

weight.-2.8kg
Arms-1.5cm
bust--3cm
waist--3cm
hips--2cm
thighs--3cm
So i am feeling mighty fine today Almost saw my happy dolphins, they just swam by in the distance.
I do feel great though. The trainer was laughing as she was taking my measurements as i had happened to say i don't think i had lost any cms. I couldn't see a difference.
I guess this means that when my undies were falling down during workouts, it wasn't because i was always coming across the same pair that had loosened elastic
Because that was what i kept telling myself.
Soooo, i don't see too much of a difference. Just dents. For a while i have noticed a dent on one side of my stomach and felt a dent on the other sides buttcheek. But the last few days have brought to my attention a dent under my belly button which seems to cause a hump above my belly button. Obviously, now that i have hindsight, it's my stomach shape changing and i'll have to get used to it's new shape - for a while

No TGIF for me....no drinkies. I'm hitting the supersession tomorrow so i wont do that on a hangover - and ever since i have been eating a lot healthier i seem to get hangovers ranging from small to headsplitting on even 2 drinks

I've lost my happy dolphins :(

Well, i'm still doing contours. I've been everyday they are open since i joined, except the first Sat as i A Didin't think i'd want to and B Thought i'd need the rest.
I had happy dolphins for the first full week, which made it a hell of a lot easier to be good. 2 weeks later and i haven't seen them since. Still going but sometimes i feel blah and am counting down the machines until i am finshed or i really work my arse off and feel some major power and determination flowing through me, but still no happy dolphins.

I have even booked into their super session this week, admittedly after asking if i could madify some moves due to my size as i heard women talking about how hard and scary it is. I was told i would be able to handle it easy from what the have seen when watching me - now that made me feel good for a while.

Are happy dolphins realated to other things? Like if maybe you haven't eaten enough that day - so far, no dolphins.
Or
Feeling some ache in my knee, no dolphins.

I WANT THEM BACK!!!!!

On another note, i wont be doing the 6 week challenge as they are not running it due to being school hols soon. Sorry if i have mentioned this before. I can't remember if i mentioned it in thread or in blog.

Doing the happy dance.

1.2 kilos down. I am very pleased. I didn't need any fluid tablets.....i didn't go hungry this week....i upped my water intake, did my gym workouts 6 days and i finally feel this one isn't a fluke and it was earned.

On the downside my knees feel tight and weak...mainly my left one. So the last 2 days i went easy and downgraded a weight on the 2 machines that put pressure on my knees and also kept the rebounder low impact to minimize jarring.

I want to see 132.?? on the scale next week as it will be a CK low for me. Fingers crossed.

To everyone else in CK land. Don't let recent activities get you down. Heads down, bums up and keep focussing on your own goals and achievements and leave the negative Nelly's/Ned's behind. I'm sending out a huge CK land hug

TGIF peoples Bring on the weekend, life is looking grand

A Happy Dolphin Day

So i finally plucked up the courage to walk into my local contours gym last week. I made an appointment for today to have my assessment. Got through that all well and good and they were just about to send me on my merry way when i told them i would like to sign up right then and there.
I didn't quite have the right money so i made an appointment for my first session later on in the day and this afternoon i went in and paind.....and had my first session. For the first 3 sessions, you get trained by one of the lovely ladies so you learn how to use the machines correctly.
My lovely trainer put me through my paces - first circuit just learning the machines and second circuit doing the rebound bits as well - just a little cardio. Halfway through my second circuit i had a heart rate check and the woman realised she hadn't been working me enough! That was great to hear. The beginners levels and cardio and i was more advance than that! I would say i didn't even break into a sweat but that would be a lie. I'm one of THOSE people who sweat easily, but my heart rate wasn't elevated enough. I got through it all and even made appointments for my next 2 'trained' sessions. Tomorrow and Monday.
I was asked if i wanted to take advantage of them measuring me and after admitting i found that horrifying, i agreed. Whatever keeps me moving (losing?) right?
So, my 'happy dolphins' are here. The only thing i feel is a slight heaviness in my muscles. Hopefully i pull up well as my session is for the morning tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it.
Have a good one

A bushwalking rehash

Hmmmm, i wonder how silly i am about to be.

1 year and a month ago i tried a huge hike. And i was buggered. See link if interested.

http://www.calorieking.com.au/blogs/index.php?member=thamlore&year=2007&month=06&day=09

Well i am about to try it again. I don't think there will be much difference as i have slacked off with exercising and mostly stick to walking all the time. I am still babying my spark and thought maybe rehashing something from a year ago may help ignite that little sucker into a full blown fire.

*************************************************************************************************
Ummm, we are back. I think!. After the first 10 mins i started to panic and worried that i had made a mistake....de ja vu??? I thought i would be lucky to shave 10 mins off. Then i remembered the 2 hours 10 thing didn't include the rest breaks and photo ops etc. So i hoped to be between 2 hrs to 2 hours 10 with out resting. Remember it is a 2hour ther and back recommendation.

Well....the stairs killed me just as much as they did the first time. There are two huge sets. You go down them on the way there which of course means up on the way back. The first set - on the way back was bad enough and i had slight pauses and cursed my stupidity. The second set was massive and i was starting to panic. Many pauses in the first half of them and then i just told myself i hated this person i was...who can't even manage huge steep steps and i needed to do this for the plane. So with every right step i kept repeating, the plane, the plane, the plane and i managed to finish the second half off with only 2 pauses. ( now when i say steps, think.....huge bloody shelves that take 2 steps between each layer and standing on 1 layer has the next layer to your knee. There are some smaller ones whis only reach mid calf length though) And i thought i would have handled it so much better as for almost a year now i have stopped taking the elevator and used only stairs or escalators - which i walk up and don't remain still on) But i digress.
So we made it over many mountains - though after i had cleared both steps we stopped for a drinks break. 3 mins there.
And the brilliant news!!!!
1 hour and 33 mins there and back! If i take off the drinks break like i did first time round we shaved 40 mins off last time. No wonder i felt it a little earlier, we were going all out. And what is even better. I wasn't strolling along as i shaved 30 mins of the recommended time even.
So, without anything else. That is a true test of fitness and i DID win.
Now please....can someone carry me to my bed?????

BTW.....my children don't normally like so artisitic. LOL
Check out the waves behind them, they were HUGE.

To blog or not to blog!

Well that is the question isn't it.
I have been just hanging about....sometimes filling in the food diary, but mostly not but it has been a long time since i have blogged.
I'm going through the motions but have no spark.
Ohh, and i have just realised that 2 days ago marked the end of my first year at CK. Yayy me. But i hoped for so much more. It has been such a struggle to get here and now i need to come up with some sort of mojo booster to help me have a better second year.
My first plan of attack....Blogging more. Though what to blog about when i have the same old , same old nothing happens day. I'm guessing this has something to do with my low motivation as well.

I have been taking a once a week body combat class for a few months now......which is something i would never have considered doing when i first started and now on top of this i am getting ready to start body pump as well. 2 classes! My muscles are very scared with my brain just thinking about it. They have created flabby bingo wings to hide in LOL, well that's my excuse anyway.

i got to week 8 of C25K and then just kind of slacked off. I'm going to have to get back on track with that but........
I need to stop focusing on the past and head for the future. Don't know how i am going to do that. No outstounding revelations yet.

I guess i should be proud that i can at least maintain, try to focus on the kilos i HAVE lost and not just the ones i have left to lose.

A bad weekend.

Well after a bad weigh in due to fluid from TTOTm we had our towns local festival this weekend. Fun was had by all - the fam anyway, but i guess not by my body.
Cal wise, i was in the ballpark or just under for both days but they were bad food choices and not a lot of food was counted in there. The best thing.....if you can consider this good is that it played havoc with my system causing frequent trips to the toilet but to me this means that my normal lifestyle is very good now and my body isn't used to such bad food any more. Seeing the glass half full there.....at a stretch anyways

Of to combat tonight. So far the day has been good and i have my dinner planned, steamed veg and fish and i want to eat it about an hour and a half before going so that i have time to fully digest and use the energy it gives me. I remember last weeks lack of energy and don't want to go there again.

Wednesday, 13th Feb 2008

Despite having had a bad back since last Wednesday i managed to make it to my second Body combat class - which was fortunate as another ck friend made it for her first. It is nice to put faces to names I managed this by rubbing so much dencorub into my back that i smelled like a footy teams locker room. There was a couple of movements i had to limit to only slight copies but all in all i managed it fine and i felt it was a bit easier this time around. My HR was in the same area as last time but i didn't have the 7 min check thinking.....Are we there yet? I was going to take it easy for the rest of the week and do nothing but i couldn't do it, so i started C25K week 4. Can i say.... I managed the first interval well, then came the 5 min interval and i found myself slowing right down for the last min and a half and that is where my pace stayed for the rest of the runs. All i could think of was....How can i be asked to jump straight from 3 mins to 5. Freaken masochist Only problem is i can't see me being able to move onto week 5 in 2 weeks time but i guess i'll cross that bridge
when i come to it.

Tuesday, 5th Feb 2008

Woohoo....yesterday i did my first body combat class. Actually my first public class ever. I might add this to my thumbs up list. Not the other ones though as i have no time frame for this, but just to say i have achieved it. So i made it through, wanted to quit after 7 mins thinking i had gotten myself into something insane.......but by the end of the class i didn't feel too bad. I don't today either but i wonder about tomorrow.

I also finshed week 3 of C25K last week and started on it for the second time today. It used to be Mon, Wed, Fri but i am having to tweak the timetable seeing as combat is on a Monday.

Trying out some fluid tablets as i have been sufferring big time lately. I guess the weather not making its mind up may have something to do with retention as well.

I'd just like to say a very public Thank you to my fellow 50+ member Ness
She held my hand through the class and told me i could do pushups when i had never attempted floor ones before and only done the wall ones. She is a strong amazing women who has managed to do some things i hadn't even thought of attempting, even though i had been in my new lifestyle for quite a while longer.

Oh, and a mantra from the movie 28 days with Sandra Bullock keeps running through my mind. Even though it was meant for a drug and alchohol rehab on the movie i find it fitting.............
It works, if you work it, SO WORK IT!

My new checklist.

Well my mojo is flowing slightly higher than it has been in months but it's still not in full swing. So i've come up with a check list-idea pilfered from a friend Hopefully checking things off will help with this. I must add i am using this in regards to exercise not mini goals. Although i do way more exercise now then i did at the start of the year i am starting to feel i am not pushing myself hard enough. I'm a little sporadic, and usually stick to the same things so my body needs a shakeup. I was going to wait and put these down as new years resolutions but why wait.....So here goes.

A 10 mins straight on the eliptical trainer.-------I could do this before but haven't been on this dreaded machine in 3 months.
B 20 mins straight on the eliptical trainer.
C 30 mins straight on the eliptical trainer.
D 1st week of C25K
E 2nd week of C25K
F 3rd week of C25K
G 4th week of C25k
H 5th week of C25K
I 6th week of C25K
J 7th week of C25K
K 8th weeks of C25K
L 9th week of C25K
M 10% of weightloss reached
N 20% of weight loss reached
O 30% of weightloss reached
P 10 mins straight of Tae bo.
Q 20 mins straight Tae bo.
R 30 mins straight of Tae bo.

I'll probably add to this as i started to check things off. Well hopefully.

Edit I did the first session of C25k. I feel great, ankles are a little sore but not too much and i sweated like a pig My dog nearly put me off though, between trying to jump on me as i went and emitting obnoxious odours
Just realised i have already reached 1 goal without realising it. I'm looking to get down to 65. 149-65=84. 10% of that being 8.4. Yay me.

A free woman.

So last Friday saw me get the ok to be free of my arm brace. My tendon is almost fully healed and i have only 1 more appointment which is in 2 weeks just to check on the strength of my hand. I am now allowed back in the pool and i've been told i can start using my hand weights again, as long as i start off small. The best thing is not wearing the brace at night. Sleeping next to hubby is like sleeping with a furnace and my arm gets so sweaty. I can make a fist and everything but i am surprised so see how i can't make it as tight as the other hand so there's work to be done there.

Lately i have been seriously considering doing boot camps in the new year so i thought i'd take myself down to a private quiet beach to see how i'd go. Um yeahhhhh no So not ready. I got my heart rate right up, usually at 160-180 but i had to keep stopping and starting. I couldn't keep myself going. I was a bit scared with my HR hitting 180, i figure the 160 area was a great position though so it's time to get focused on cardio. I'm going to restart the C25K program this week. Wish me luck

Bird brained idea

Okay, someone slap me upside the head next time i get another bird brained idea.
A 3km bushwalk HAH! Help me i'm dying! It was good that it only took my four kids and I 2hrs and 10 mins to do the 2hr walk. After all i am so unfit it is not funny. But to find out when i enter it into my diary that the cals burnt are equal to that of 30 mins in step class DOH!

My poor youngest was sooo happy at the start, but just before the halfway break she had had enough. Her little legs didn't want to walk anymore. And the fact that the last half a km was all stairs.........(It was one and a half a km there, 3km round trip, so 1 km of stairs all up). Starting back i thought i was an idiot who had bitten of more than she could chew. I also felt so sorry for my kids who had to slow right down with all my stopping and starting i did on the stairs. THIS HAS TO CHANGE.

I made it though, and i didn't die. I am so proud of myself and i think my kids are too.I have had an ankle injury for the past 2 weeks and my eldest 2 kids we arguing about who could give me a massage. Then hubby took over, ohhhhhh the pain.
I am logging off now as i have to pass out!

Today i cried......Happy tears

Wow...............................
So 2 days ago i started a step DVD and thought to myself -self, do fifteen mins every 2 days at the low intensity range recommended, ie the floor.

So i did that on Wednesday, on top of my at least half hour walking.
Then i did it again on Thursday, so i was feeliong pretty good about myself. I even checked my pulse after the 15mins to make sure everything was right there. Yep all OK.
Today after checking in and finding i had lost another kilo i felt motivated enough to go again using the lowest part of my step. WOW o WOW!!!
I started crying happy tears when i realised i had gotten through 12 mins of it with 3 mins left. My muscles were aching, sweat was streaming down my face(something which didn't happen the previous 2 times)and i started breathing harder after only a couple of mins. My pulse check told me i was right at the top of my ok range, i cooled down, drank some water and even now feel so euphoric.

I just can't believe i cried without being sad, FOR MYSELF! What is this thing i am feeling.....pride? I can't get rid of my smile.
